Times Higher Education (THE) takes into account the same considerations when ranking higher education institutions in emerging economies as it does in the overall world ranking, using only different weightings in order to best reflect the unique characteristics of emerging economies.
The indicators used to create the ranking can be divided into five major groups: education (learning environment), research (quantity, revenue, acknowledgement), citations (research impact), internationality (teachers, students, research), industrial revenue (knowledge transfer).
Three Chinese universities lead the THE ranking and seven Chinese universities in the top ten. In 2020, the University of Debrecen is in the 251-300th category. A total of eight Hungarian universities were included in the list: Semmelweis University was ranked 70th, Eötvös Loránd University 149th, The University of Pécs 176th, the University of Szeged 201-250th, Budapest University of Technology and Economics 251-300th, Corvinus University of Budapest 301-350th and Szent István University 351-400th.
