Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen Teaching Hospital is one of the largest institutes of surgery in the country offering the widest range of procedures. Currently, we treat patients on 129 beds with 40 physicians working at the department. With the medical supervision of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, we treat patients on an additional 18 postoperative intensive care beds. The department is located in the beautiful Great Forest in a new and modern building opened in 2006 as part of the Auguszta project using facilities of a high European standard.

Within the field of general surgery, our key areas of specialization include the treatment of   gastrointestinal diseases (stomach, colon, liver, pancreatic diseases), providing care for the surgical diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid, as well as breast, gallbladder, and hernia surgery.

Vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, and kidney transplantation are some of our special areas of care.

We perform more than 5,000 surgeries a year and meet patients at eight outpatient clinics every year. Our patient satisfaction indicators have reflected a 90-95 % positive experience in recent years.
