Department of Oncology

The two divisions of the Department of Oncology, Radiotherapy and Oncology, provide the widest spectrum of care for cancer patients. In terms of radiotherapy, the department provides state-of-the-art local and regional radiation therapy for both solid and hematological malignancies. Due to the linear accelerators installed in 2013 and 2015 intensity-modulated radiation therapy can be given which significantly reduces radiation exposure of surrounding healthy tissues and it is implemented with modem image-guiding technology. In certain special cases, when surgery is not possible, radiosurgery can also be performed. High level quality assurance is also connected to these procedures that guarantees safety and repeatability.

The Department of Oncology is responsible for the systemic treatment of solid tumors (especially breast cancer, colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal tumors, head and neck tumors, soft tissue tumors, nervous system tumors and uro-oncological tumors), chemotherapy, endocrine therapies, biologically targeted therapies and immunotherapies. The prescription and use of IV therapy takes place using a quality assured system (CATO). We provide a wide range of opportunities for our patients to access clinical tests, further extending the therapeutic range and the opportunities for healing.

The personalized treatment decisions are made in onco-teams, where the representatives of fields related to oncology and the staff of diagnostic departments plan the most optimal therapy for the patient. The psycho-oncology outpatient clinic of the Department of Oncology helps people cope with the mental symptoms related to the disease in the form of individual and group therapy.
