Department of Internal Medicine, Building B

The complete range of hematological care is available at our institute. We provide care for onco-hematology patients (lymphoma, leukemia) on a regional level, while the autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation of these patients (the latter since May 2016) is a national responsibility of the institute, offered in our Hematopoietic Transplantation Center.

Our Thrombosis and Hemostasis Center provides care on the regional level for severe thromboembolism and patients with inherited bleeding disorders. The examination, and in case necessary the care, of hematological and non-hematological rare diseases is provided on the national level.

We are a regional center for gastroenterology in all branches of gastroenterology. As a regional IBD center we provide care for patients with complications in close cooperation with the Department of Surgery and we are also the only biological therapy center. Capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy are available only here in the region thus we play a major role in the diagnostics of bleeding patients and by means of APC and variceal ligation in their care as well. We can show outstanding achievements in ERCP procedures. This includes endoscopic ultrasound and the implantation of self-expandable metal stents essential for the palliation of cancer patients. Our caring services provided in the fields of hepatology, chronic viral hepatitis, chronic liver disease, and autoimmune hepatitis are nationally renowned. We also actively participate in CRC screening through the gastroenterology clinic.

The department operates outpatient clinics in line with the above profiles. The department treats more than 5,200 inpatients and 57,077 outpatients a year.

In the last 60 years the department building became partly outdated thus using an EU grant (TIOP 2.2.7.) it went through major extension and development and in August 2011 such a modern facility was opened that had been renovated extensively and which helps providing even better care for patients in a way that meets the requirements of the 21st century in all aspects.
